BEC Environmental -- Permitting Assistance for Pahrump, Nevada


Permitting Assistance Pahrump, Nevada Pahrump Valley Disposal (PVD) asked BEC Environmental, Inc. (BEC) to assist in obtaining appropriate changes to the current Pahrump Regional Master Plan and zoning and obtaining permits to further the company's desire and the community's need to relieve the stress on the Pahrump Valley Landfill. That landfill was in danger of being forced to close due to reaching maximum capacity. Estimates have ranged from anywhere from two to ten years before closure will be required. PVD's efforts to maximize the use of the facility have resulted in extending the projected life of the landfill. PVD recognized that development of an aggressive recycling program will further extend the life of the landfill. PVD also recognized the potential need for a transfer station should the community be forced to use a landfill site more than ten miles beyond the city limits. PVD asked BEC to assist in getting the zoning changed from Mixed Use to Commercial Use for one property and to Heavy Industrial Use for several properties in order to facilitate the development of both projects. After the appropriate zoning was obtained, BEC assisted PVD in its efforts to obtain the required permitting for each of the properties.
